This article published by Holz. et al. in the Journal of Biomolecualar Chemistry. Looked at the effects of GLP-1 on the Ca2+ influx into the cell that results in a cascade of effects that amplify the influx of Ca2+. This influx of Ca2+ into the pancreatic beta cells is widely accepted to induce the exocytosis of insulin containing granules. The researchers also looked at the physiological Ca2+ influx response to Caffeine.
